Clothing Swap!

Yesterday I attended one of my favorite events of every season. THE CLOTHING SWAP!

Here’s how it works: get your fashionable girlfriends together, decide on a date, clean out your closets of some fabulous things someone should have that just aren’t working for you, everybody bring some food and…go!

Now, in the old days, we used to have a sleep over and stage gladiator-style competitions when two girls wanted to same piece. I remember a particularly vicious battle over a pair of cut off jean shorts a few years ago.

But, this year Megan and Amy hosted a dignified brunch complete with teams and timed rotations. There was only one challenge of the day and it was settled with a fashion trivia question, of all things.

There were some stylish Seattle women in the house. You know when someone walks in, points to a dress and says, “Is that a Betsey Johnson?” that you have hit clothing swap gold. But, it’s not all high end, brand obsession. My favorite thing about clothing swap is getting items that I would NEVER choose for myself. I didn’t do so well in that category this year, however.

I picked out a cute, embroidered black dress that made Hope say, “Is that something you brought here?”

I’m always quietly proud when the pieces I bring get snatched up first. Different girls grabbed items of mine in each of the first two rounds, but no one left with the Diesel boots I brought. That just means someone at Value Village will go home happy.

The left over clothes are donated. In the process of cleaning out my closet, I got together three more bags for donation.
